The New Year's Eve in Cologne moves the republic, and serious unrest breaks out in the Idomeni refugee camp. CETA, the free trade agreement with Canada, is signed after long squabbles, and the EU is more divided than ever. The Olympic Games fascinate billions of people, and Portugal becomes European soccer champion for the first time.
